BEVERLY HILLS, January 20, (THEWILL) – Zamfara State governor, Bello Matawalle, has described an exclusive story done by online news outlet, Sahara Reporters, as fake news, saying it was a “malicious report by a dead newspaper”.

Sahara Reporters had in the report claimed that the governor gave bandits millions of Naira and some the Hilux vehicles they used in carrying out their nefarious activities in the state. The media outfit had credited a top military personnel as its source.

The governor, in a reply via his Twitter page, said Sahara Reporters did what was against the ethics of journalism, by not seeking verification from the state government.

“This is a false and malicious report by a dead newspaper clinging on spreading fake news to stay relevant. Sahara reporters should’ve professionally sought out our government to verify this information before rushing to press. This is against the ethics of journalism

“The said vehicles, 200 of them were donated to security agencies in the state to boost their morale in tackling insurgency. This is a display of quackery and sheer mischief targeted at disabusing the minds of law abiding and patriotic citizens of the state.”

He added that he commissioned the distribution of 200 vehicles to improve the operational capacity of the state’s security forces.

“We’ll not relent in delivering the core mandate of securing the lives and property of our citizens”, he promised.
