The match, which was held at the King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh, saw Barcelona dominate from the opening whistle, with young players Gavi and Pedri inspiring their team to victory.
In the early stages of the game, Barcelona created the first two real openings, with Ronald Araujo and Robert Lewandowski both coming close to scoring. However, it was Gavi who would break the deadlock in the 33rd minute, drilling the ball into the bottom corner of the net after a clever pass from Lewandowski.
The Polish forward would then double the lead just before half-time, capitalizing on a square ball from Gavi inside the penalty area. But, Real Madrid attempted to mount a comeback in the second half, but their lack of energy and pace meant they rarely threatened the Barcelona defence. In the 70th minute, Pedri made it 3-0 for Barcelona following a quick counter-attack led by Gavi. Real Madrid did manage to get a goal back deep in stoppage time through Benzema, but it was too little too late.
The win marks Xavi’s first trophy as Barcelona’s head coach and the team’s first Supercopa de Espana win since 2018. For Real Madrid, the defeat raises questions about their ability to compete in one-sided affairs. With this performance, Barcelona may also be favourites to win La Liga.
