October 12, (THEWILL) – Former World Boxing Council heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder has expressed his willingness to take on Anthony Joshua in a heavyweight bout in Africa.

This Saturday, he goes into the ring to fight Robert Helenius in New York but he is looking for a shot at a heavyweight title once more with high expectations that facing Britain’s Joshua is a part of the road to that title.

Speaking of the draw to fight Joshua, Wilder said: “I would love to do that fight in Africa. It’s still the number one fight in the world for everyone. Everywhere I go, people always talk about me versus Joshua. We both have roots from there (in Africa). I think it would be an amazing place to have it, to go back home.

“To go back to the motherland. A continent full of our people. I can just see that being an amazing fight, win, lose or draw. I think we’ll get the respect and love from all the people over there.”

THEWILL recalls that in 1974, boxing legends Muhammad Ali and the undefeated and undisputed heavyweight champion George Foreman squared off in Kinshasa, Congo Democratic Republic of Congo in a contest iconically remembered as the “Rumble in the Jungle.”
