January 04, (THEWILL) – West Ham United have announced the death of joint-chairman David Gold, who passed away on Wednesday morning, at the age of 86.

Gold, a lifelong fan of the club, had been joint-chairman of the Hammers alongside David Sullivan, since 2010. During his time with the club, Gold helped oversee its stability in the English Premier League and its move from Upton Park to the London Stadium in 2016.

Prior to his time with West Ham, Gold was Chairman of Birmingham City from 1993 to 2009, leading the team to three Premier League promotions.

In a statement on the West Ham website, Sullivan said, “David had a long-standing connection with the Hammers, and represented the Club at junior level. He always wanted what was best for West Ham United, and his passing is a great loss for all of us.”

Current first team manager, David Moyes, also expressed his condolences, saying, “Mr Gold was a regular visitor to Rush Green and always a source of great support and encouragement to myself and the players. He will be greatly missed.”
