October 27, (THEWILL) – Serie A leaders, Napoli, have maintained that they “don’t have to fix anything” in their current squad, as a rejection of the notion that they would provide an option out for Cristiano Ronaldo in the January window.
Cristiano Giuntoli, Napoli’s Sporting Director, stated that the likelihood of any significant transfers in or out was distant because Napoli are confident in the strength and balance of their current squad. Regarding interests in Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Victor Osimhen, Giuntoli said: “The January transfer market is one of repair and we don’t have to fix anything, so I really think we won’t do anything.”
As Napoli seeks its first Scudetto since the 1989/1990 campaign, when Diego Maradona was a member of the team, rumours have linked Ronaldo to Napoli, but Giuntoli continued by saying that the team will not “fly with the fantasy” this year: “We are very far from the market. At the moment we are thinking only of everyday life, trying to improve continuously.”
The ongoing speculation is that if a deal that benefits both parties can be reached, Ronaldo is likely to depart Manchester United in January. The 37-year-old was momentarily suspended from first-team responsibilities last week when he refused to enter as a substitute and left the stadium early against Tottenham.
Sporting CP, Ronaldo’s former club, ruled out a transfer, and Napoli, who had been connected to Ronaldo during the last transfer window, are also backing away from a deal for the five-time Ballon d’Or winner.
