VAR Denies Congo Victory in Goalless Draw Against Niger

January 21, (THEWILL) – In a TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) match on Friday, Congo and Niger played out a goalless draw in Oran.

Both teams had several opportunities to score, but were unable to convert. Congo had the best chance in the first half with a low strike from Borel Tomandzoto, but it was saved by Niger’s goalkeeper, Mahamadou Djibo.

In the second half, Niger had more chances with Faysal Abdoulaye and Bilyamine Moussa forcing saves from Congo’s goalkeeper, Pavelh Ndzila. Congo’s Deo Bassinga thought he had won the game in the final moments, but his goal was ruled out by VAR and the game ended in a draw.

With this result, Congo is eliminated from the competition as only one team from their group will advance to the knockout stage. Niger will face Cameroon on Monday, in Oran for a chance to advance to the quarter-finals.
