March 02, (THEWILL) – Liverpool’s pursuit of a top-four finish in the English Premier League gained momentum on Monday night, as they secured a hard-fought 2-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield.

Second-half goals from Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah, sealed the deserved victory for Jurgen Klopp’s men, who are now just six points behind fourth-placed Chelsea.

The game got off to an intense start as Wolves had their best chances of the match within the first five minutes. However, Liverpool’s goalkeeper, Alisson Becker, made a crucial double save to deny the visitors from taking the lead. Liverpool then had their opportunities to score but failed to immediately capitalise. Young midfielder, Harvey Elliott, missed a golden chance before the break but almost made amends later on.

In the second half, Liverpool dominated proceedings and finally broke the deadlock on the hour mark when Van Dijk headed home from close range. Salah then doubled their advantage with a cool finish after a neat pass from Kostas Tsimikas.

The win extends Liverpool’s unbeaten run in the EPL to four games, their last loss was away at Wolves early this month and puts them in a good position ahead of their crucial clash against arch-rivals, Manchester United, on Sunday. Meanwhile, Wolves welcome Tottenham Hotspur to the Molineux the day before.
