September 08, (THEWILL) – Son of late UK’s longest-serving monarch, who succeeded his mother as new monarch will be known as King Charles III, royal officials announced on Thursday evening.
Prime Minister Liz Truss, also confirmed the title. Truss in a short statement said, “Today the Crown passes, as it has done for more than a thousand years, to our new monarch, our new head of state, his majesty King Charles III.”
The Prime Minister ended her speech by saying “Long Live the King”.
There will also be a new title for Charles’ wife, whose full title will be Queen Consort – consort is the term used for the spouse of the monarch.
Formerly known to the nation as Prince Charles, the 73-years-old, who up until this point occupied the position of heir apparent to the British throne,
Charles, the former Prince of Wales, automatically becomes king, immediately after the passage of his mother who died at the age of 96.
