November 01, (THEWILL) – Nuno Espirito Santo, the manager of Tottenham Hotspur, has been fired after barely four months in charge. Ian Cathro, Rui Barbosa, and Antonio Dias have also all been removed of their responsibilities as coaches.

Fabio Paratici, Tottenham’s managing director of football, said in a statement: “I know how much Nuno and his coaching staff wanted to succeed and I regret that we have had to take this decision.

“Nuno is a true gentleman and will always be welcome here. We should like to thank him and his coaching staff and wish them well for the future.”

The decision was made following a 3-0 home loss to Manchester United on Saturday, during which fans showed their displeasure.

Chairman Daniel Levy and managing director of football Fabio Paratici met to discuss Nuno’s firing on Sunday, as THEWILL reported. On Monday morning, the decision was relayed to Nuno at Tottenham’s training complex.

Spurs have now dropped to seventh in the Premier League table, ten points behind leaders Chelsea, after suffering back-to-back league defeats.

Nuno was unable to maintain his promising start to the season, in which he led Tottenham to their best start to a Premier League season, with three wins in their first three games. He has, however, lost five of his ten Premier League games since then.

The first leg of their UEFA Europa Conference League play-off against Portuguese top-flight team Pacos Ferreira raised alarm bells as their 1-0 success over Manchester City was overshadowed by a 1-0 away setback to Pacos Ferreira.

Spurs lost 3-0 to Crystal Palace and Chelsea after the international break, before losing 3-1 to Arsenal, putting Nuno under even more stress.

On Saturday, Cristiano Ronaldo, Edinson Cavani, and Marcus Rashford all scored on a night when the Tottenham fans booed the manager for substituting Lucas Moura for Steven Berjwijn in the second half, as well as venting their anger on the players both during and after the game.

Spurs were defeated for the sixth time in seven league games, and they conceded three goals for the fourth time this season.

Antonio Conte and Paolo Fonseca are two candidates linked with the job of replacing Nuno.
