December 06, (THEWILL) – As shocking as Spain’s elimination from the Qatar World Cup, at the hands of the Moroccans was for the Europeans, their coach, Luis Enrique, is convinced that now is “not the right time” to talk about his future.

While he is insistent that he still has a chance to be La Roja’s head coach, the pain of their exit will be deep for their fans. Spain was one of the tournament favourites but after a goalless tie at Education City Stadium, La Roja was eliminated from the competition for the second time in a row in a penalty shootout.

Thanks to the Moroccan goalkeeper, Yassine Bounou, who saved two penalties, the north Africans won the shootout 3-0 as Pablo Sarabia, Carlos Soler, and Sergio Busquets, all missed their opportunities to help Spain progress.

In response to a post-match question about whether he will remain as national coach, Enrique said: “I cannot tell you, I don’t know this decision. This is not the right time to discuss my future, it’s not relevant.

“My contract is going to end, but I am very happy with the national team, with the federation, and I have always had great support from [Jose Francisco] Molina, who is the sporting director. I could always carry on. I need to have peace of mind to decide what’s best for me and the team.”
