Swiatek Dominates Bucsa To Advance To Australian Open Round Of 16

January 20, (THEWILL) – Iga Swiatek, the world’s number one player, has advanced to the last 16 of the Australian Open after a dominant 6-0, 6-1 victory over Cristina Bucsa on Margaret Court Arena.

The match, which took only 55 minutes, saw Swiatek dominate from start to finish, with Bucsa, who had to battle through qualifying to reach the main draw, unable to find an answer to the Pole’s clinical play.

The first set was a whitewash, with Bucsa never really in the contest. The second set followed a similar pattern, with cheers ringing around the court as Bucsa held one service game, her only consolation, to make it 5-1. However, a wild backhand from Bucsa sealed the match for Swiatek, who is showing why she is the favorite to win her third Grand Slam title.

In post-match comments, Swiatek said: “I always try and focus on the same stuff, pretty technical stuff. It doesn’t matter if I’m winning or losing it’s all the same to help me to stay disciplined. I’ve always wanted to be that kind of player who is consistent so I’m pretty happy that I’m achieving that goal.”

She is now one step closer to her goal of winning her third Grand Slam title and will look to continue her solid play in the upcoming rounds. In the next round, she will face Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina, who defeated USA’s Danielle Collins 6-2, 5-7, 6-2.
