January 09, (THEWILL) – The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) in Katsina State, has organised the Security Peace and Unity football competition, which began at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina, on Sunday.

Eight security agencies are participating in the competition, including the NDLEA, FRSC, Police, FAAN security, Nigeria Army, NAF, Nigeria Customs Service, and the NSCDC.

The competition, which will last for a week, is meant to strengthen the existing working relationship between the security agencies in the state and journalists, and also advocate for the importance of participating in sporting activities, especially for security operatives and journalists.

“The need for participation of journalists and security operatives in sporting activities needs to be emphasised,” said the SWAN Chairman, Mr Nasir Gide. “This is because they are always occupied at work, therefore there is the need for regular exercise to keep them fit and improve their health conditions.”

The NDLEA Commander in the state, Mr Mohammed Bashir, added that the competition is a welcome idea as it will strengthen the sportsmanship and interrelationship between the agencies. The first match of the competition was played between the FRSC and the Police team and ended with a score of 3-0 in favour of the Police team.

The second game was played between the NDLEA team and the FAAN security team and ended with a score of 3-1 in favour of the NDLEA team.
