November 05, (THEWILL) – Milan defeated Spezia 2-1 to go into second place in Serie A after Olivier Giroud scored a late winner, only to be immediately sent off with a second yellow card for taking off his shirt while celebrating.
Following their midweek demolition of Salzburg to advance to the round of 16 in the UEFA Champions League, Theo Hernandez set the Rossoneri on course for back-to-back victories with the opening goal.
In the second half, Daniel Maldini, son of Paolo Maldini, startled his parent club by tying the score with Spezia’s first away goal of the year.
However, there was late drama at San Siro when Giroud came off the bench to volley a winner in the 89th minute before receiving his marching orders with that second yellow card for ripping off his jersey in ecstatic jubilation.
On Tuesday, both sides are back in action with Milan away to Cremonese and Spezia hosting Udinese at the Stadio Alberto Picco.
