BEVERLY HILLS, January 17, (THEWILL) – On Saturday, Super Falcons brilliant forward Rasheedat Ajibade featured for her Atletico Madrid Feminino side in their 2020/2021 Super Cup final victory against a Levante women’s team that they defeated by three goals to nil.
As covered by THEWILL on the 1st of January, the Madrid side celebrated the signing of Ajibade after she left Norwegian side Avaldsnes in several tweets that alluded to her bringing some physical power to the attack line of the Rojiblancos.
Now, in their colours, she has joined in celebrating what was Madrid’s first ever Spanish Women’s Super Cup title in their history. Ajibade was introduced into the final in the 72nd minute and helped them retain their lead to the end.
An 18th minute goal from Venezuelan striker Deyna Castellanos and an impressive quick fire brace in a space of 10 minutes – in the 22nd and 32 minutes – from Indomitable Lioness star Ajara Nchout sealed the comfortable win for the women’s side from the Spanish capital.
On the path to the Super Cup final, Ajibade’s Atletico Madrid Feminino defeated another Super Falcons side, Asisat Oshoala’s Barcelona, in a tough semi-finals encounter that could only be resolved by penalty shootouts.
It is fair consolation for Nigerian fans who follow the game that, at the very least, a member of the Super Falcon side got her hands on the trophy and all the variable football lessons that go with such gallant triumph on the big stage.
