October 15, (THEWILL) – The next edition of the National Sports Festival, Nigeria’s biennial multi-sport event, which is tagged “Asaba 2022”, is set to feature some international teams, according to Sunday Dare, the honourable Minister of Youth and Sports Development.

The Minister said invitations have been sent to Ghana, Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, Guinea, the Benin Republic, and Sierra Leone to present teams that will participate in the Games for the first time since its 1973 origins.

Speaking on the rationale for the invitation, the Minister said: “The National Sports Festival, Asaba 2022 is our own Olympics. We want to make it an African show, so we are adding some international flavour to it with the participation of teams from at least four West African countries.

“We are hoping to have about 16,000 to 18,000 athletes at the Sports Festival.”

The Sports Festival is slated to take place in Asaba, Delta State, from November 28 to December 10, this year.
