November 10, (THEWILL) – James Maddison and Callum Wilson have been added to Gareth Southgate’s England World Cup squad, along with Kyle Walker.

Despite having received just one Three Lions cap prior to this season, Maddison has been in outstanding form for Leicester City with six goals and four assists in the English Premier League.

Wilson and Maddison are among the forwards travelling to Qatar with Phil Foden, Raheem Sterling, Jack Grealish, Marcus Rashford, Bukayo Sako, and Harry Kane, who took home the Golden Boot at the 2018 World Cup.

Tammy Abraham, who scored 27 goals for Roma last season but has only managed four this year, is not included, and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Jadon Sancho, and Ivan Toney are all left out. Toney, a striker for Brentford, was a member of Southgate’s team for England’s September international matches but was not selected for Qatar despite being the second-highest scorer for England in the Premier League this year behind Harry Kane.

Walker, a defender for Manchester City, who has been recovering from a groin injury, was invited, with Chelsea’s Reece James and Ben Chilwell out injured. Harry Maguire, who has battled for playing time at Manchester United under Erik ten Hag, is also included as is Ben White, for his efforts to keep Arsenal on top of the domestic top division.
