Southampton Confirm Aribo’s Move From Rangers

July 10, (THEWILL) – English Premier League side, Southampton, has announced the signing of Nigerian midfielder, Joe Aribo, on a four-year deal from Scottish Premier League club, Glasgow Rangers.

Following his 2019 transfer from Charlton Athletic, the 25-year-old spent the previous three seasons at Ibrox, netting 26 goals in 149 appearances.

Aribo was part of the Gers team that reached the final of the UEFA Europa League last season, and, even though he scored, they ultimately lost to Eintracht Frankfurt. Aribo also assisted the Glasgow giants in winning their first Scottish Premiership title in ten years and the Scottish Cup as well.

Aribo, who is renowned for his versatility, is 6 feet tall and can play anywhere in midfield or as a forward, which will be huge for Ralph Hasenhüttl’s Saints next season. Though he was born in London, Aribo represents Nigeria internationally. He has 20 caps to date and had notched up international goals, scoring once against Brazil and once against Ukraine in his first two Super Eagles outings in 2019.

Aribo said of his move: “It’s an amazing club with a lot of history here, and it’s a good plan with what’s to come next. I’m really excited for the journey. The Premier League is the best league in the world. I’ve been watching it since I was a young boy, it’s always been a goal for me to play here and show what I can do on this stage.”
