June 13, (THEWILL) – Haris Seferovic scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory for Switzerland in Geneva that handed Portugal their first Nations League defeat so far in the competition.
On the other hand, Switzerland had lost all three of their Group A2 matches coming into the fixture, including a 4-0 thrashing in the reverse game. This time around, they took the lead in just the opening minute through Seferovic.
In their determined quest of an equaliser, Fernando Santos’ side was frequently denied by Swiss goalkeeper Jonas Omlin, with the visitors’ absence of injured talisman Cristiano Ronaldo being particularly obvious.
Portugal’s loss dropped them a point behind Spain at the top of the group, while Switzerland first win moves them one point ahead of Czech Republic in third.
