November 29, (THEWILL) – Elder statesman and former Minister of Steel in the second republic, Wantaregh Paul Iyorpuu Unongo, is dead.
A family source, who didn’t want to be named, said Unongo died on Tuesday, at a hospital in Jos, Plateau State, where he had been receiving treatment.
“Yes, Wantaregh Paul Unongo died today, Tuesday, but I cannot say more than that because I am not authorised to do so. But our family will issue a formal statement on the development”, the source said.
Born on September 26th,1935, Unongo belongs to the Kwaghngise-Anure-Abera ancestry, in Turan, Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State.
Until his death, Unongo was Chairman of the Governing Council of the Nigerian Educational Research Development Council (NERDC).
