January 12, (THEWILL) – FIFA has announced the nominees for The Best Men’s Coach award for 2022, with Lionel Scaloni, Didier Deschamps, Walid Regragui, Carlo Ancelotti, and Pep Guardiola all being shortlisted for the prestigious honor. The awards will be based on performances from August 2021 until the conclusion of the World Cup in December 2022.

Lionel Scaloni, the coach of Argentina, is nominated for his outstanding performance in leading the team to a dramatic victory in Qatar and an impressive run of one loss in 43 games. He will be competing against France’s Didier Deschamps, who won the award in 2018 following Les Bleus’ World Cup victory and has led the team to three finals in their last four major tournaments, including the 2021 Nations League.

Morocco’s Walid Regragui is also among the nominees, who made history by becoming the first African coach to reach a World Cup quarter-final and led the Atlas Lions to become the first team from the continent to qualify for the semi-finals.

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti is nominated for his role in leading the team to win the Champions League and La Liga double last season. Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola is also in the running, nominated for his successful tenure in leading the team to back-to-back Premier League titles.

Voting for the award will run from January 12th to February 3rd. Media representatives, national coaches, national captains, and fans will all get 25% of the vote and the polls will be open on FIFA’s website.
