Russia Invasion Displaced 13.3 Million People In Ukraine — UN

February 07, (THEWILL) – At least eight million people have fled Ukraine to neighbouring countries and another 5.3 million are now internally displaced, since Russia began its invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, the United Nations said on Monday.

Head of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), Martin Griffiths, who made this known, said 17.6 million people or almost 40 per cent of Ukraine’s population, need humanitarian assistance.

According to the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), Russia’s war with Ukraine has led to the largest refugee movement since the Second World War, adding that more than 7,000 civilians have been killed.

“The actual toll is certainly higher,” Griffiths said.

Griffiths said he would present the 2023 Humanitarian Response Plan for Ukraine in Geneva, later this month.

“This violence shows no sign of abating,” he said, adding that the 2023 Humanitarian Plan would require 3.9 billion dollars.
