BEVERLY HILLS, April 17, (THEWILL) – Without needing to kick a ball on Saturday, English Championship side Norwich City has won promotion back to the Premier League.

With the draws in the matches played by Swansea and Brentford in the Championship on Saturday, it was all that was necessary to get the Canaries of Norwich singing their way back into the top flight of English football.

In matches played across the Championship on Saturday, Swansea drew 2-2 with Wycombe and Brentford could not find anything to separate them from Millwall. Their draws were the perfect results for the Canaries, who will go into their fixture later today against Bournemouth as Premiership-bound and sans pressure.

Norwich were relegated from the top flight last season but now have Saturday’s results to thank for securing their fourth promotion to the Premier League in a decade, even with five games to spare in the Championship.

They will still be motivated against Bournemouth, though, considering that they will want to clinch the Championship title on their way up. Their closest rivals Watford suffered a 1-0 defeat to Luton to give Norwich one hand on the trophy as they now lead the Hornets by eight points and have a game in hand, to their advantage.

This being their fifth promotion to the Premier League since its foundation in 1992, is a record of its own and an achievement that puts Norwich in an exclusive class as no side has won promotion to the competition more than the Canaries.
