November 26, (THEWILL) – Mitch Duke’s first-half header gave Australia a 1-0 victory over Tunisia and sparked their chances of moving on to the World Cup knockout rounds while leaving the African country on the brink of elimination.
The Socceroos had to endure some late pressure to secure the victory after Duke converted Craig Goodwin’s left-wing cross in the 23rd minute, but now they have everything to play for when they face Denmark in their final Group D match.
With just one point after two games, Tunisia will need to defeat the reigning champions France on Wednesday and hope that other outcomes go their favour to have any hopes of remaining in Qatar beyond the group stages.
Australia will face Denmark on Wednesday, the same day that Tunisia will take on Les Bleus in the final group match of Group D. The African representatives have not been able to score and have conceded just the one goal in this defeat against Australia making chances of progress slim.
