November 28, (THEWILL) – Ghana defeated South Korea 3-2 on Monday, against a heroic comeback attempt by the Asians, and setting up an exciting World Cup retaliation mission against Uruguay.
The Taeguk Warriors rallied from a 2-0 deficit to level the scores in the second half and appeared to be the favourites to win the thrilling match at the Education City Stadium. Still, Kudus’ second goal of the contest proved to be the game-winner.
The game began on a sluggish note before Mohammed Salisu put the Black Stars up against the flow of play, and Kudus quickly put Ghana up 2-0 as they started to play with true confidence buoyed by their lead.
South Korean hero, Cho Gue-sung scored two goals in a ferocious three minutes with two outstanding headers to swing the momentum in favour of the Asians, but Kudus’ composed finish in the 68th minute, sealed the outcome in Ghana’s favour and although the South Koreans piled the pressure towards the end, nothing came from it before the final whistle.
It all culminates on Friday when Ghana battles Uruguay at Al Janoub Stadium, looking to retaliate after Luis Suarez’s infamous handball against them in 2014 knocked them out of the World Cup and South Korea returns to the Education City grounds to play Portugal.
