October 7 (THEWILL) – Professor Folasade Tolulope Ogunsola has emerged as the 13th substantive Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) after a rigorous process by the Selection Board of Governing Council of the institution.

Born in 1958, the Professor of medical microbiology, who majored in disease control, particularly HIV/AIDS, is the first female Vice-Chancellor of the institution.

She succeeds Prof Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, who is billed to end his five-year single term of office on 11 November.

Prof. Folashade is the first child of the late eminent geographer, Prof. Akin Mabogunje.

Ogunsola was also an ex-provost of the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, and is reputed as being the first woman to occupy the position

She was elected as the Acting Vice-chancellor of the University of Lagos on August 24, 2020, by the university’s senate.
