July 15, (THEWILL) – The Imo State Commissioner of Police (CP), Mohammed Barde, has directed all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), and Tactical Team Commanders in the State to supervise men on field duties to ensure compliance with the Force’s professional ethics.
This was contained in a press release signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Command, ASP Henry Okoye, and made available to journalists.
He said that sequel to a series of complaints of extortion and incivility to members of the public by operatives on field duties, CP Barde has directed the IGP X-Squad Unit, the Command’s Monitoring Unit, and provost to consistently embark on strict supervision of personnel deployed on Stop-and-search duties, traffic control, and other operational duties across the State.
“Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Team Commanders have been mandated to ensure that officers and men deployed on field duties within their respective jurisdictions, refrain from any form of corrupt practice, respect the rights of citizens, and dress neatly in compliance with dress code and ethics of the Force,” the statement read in part.
He, therefore, reiterated the Command’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that officers and men of the Command uphold the tenets of professionalism and respect the rule of law while discharging their lawful duties.
The CP also assured that the Command will not hesitate to take necessary disciplinary actions against any erring officer. He encouraged citizens to swiftly report any officer seen acting contrary to the professional ethics of the Force via 08034773600, 08103341610, or 08148024755.
