Pochettino Claims Woeful PSG Are Yet To Recover From UCL Loss

March 21, (THEWILL) – JParis Saint-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino has confessed that his side’s 3-nil loss to Monaco was “unacceptable” to which he added the excuse that his team was still recovering from their UEFA Champions League exit.

Although Monaco started the game 24 points below the Ligue 1 leaders, there was no evident class difference on the field on Sunday.

As THEWILL reported, Pochettino’s side were sloppy throughout and conceded their fourth consecutive loss away from home this season. Pochettino did not mince words after the game, admitting that his star-studded side had not put on a good enough performance.

“I’m disappointed with how we started the game. This is unacceptable. At this level of competition, you can’t start a match like we did,” he said.

“We can be happy to be 1-0 at half-time, because it could have been 2 or 3-0 already. In the second half, it was better, we created chances there, but our first half penalised us. I think it’s really not acceptable to start a game the way we did.”

The victory came just over a week after PSG was knocked out of the Champions League by Real Madrid. They squandered a two-goal aggregate lead in the second half of the return game, and their latest defeat in Europe enraged the club’s ultras.

THEWILL recalls that they booed Neymar and Lionel Messi in their previous tie from the stands, making their frustrations with the team’s performance clearly heard.

Pochettino continued with the claim that he believes the Real result had a significant impact on his players, one from which they are yet to recover: “It is clear that what happened in the Champions League did a lot of harm. The team clearly needs to break free from this.

“This prevents us from expressing our best performance. This international break should allow us to change the mentality and put us back in place. We have to come back to the game with this responsibility that exists by wearing this shirt.”
