Over 112,000 PVCs Remain Uncollected In Benue – REC

January 27, (THEWILL) – Over 112,000 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) are yet to be collected by their owners in Benue State office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The Resident Electoral Commissioner in charge of Benue State, Professor Sam Egwu, disclosed this on Thursday in Makurdi while speaking at a town hall meeting organised by the State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development in collaboration with Community Initiatives for Peace Programme anchored by Mercy Core.

According to Professor Egwu, a total of 250,000 voters have registered for the PVCs in Benue state while over 373 PVCs produced during the contentious voter registration between June 2021 and July 2022 have been received from INEC headquarters for distribution to owners in the state.

He explained that 67,000 PVCs were yet to be printed while over 44,000 names have been removed from the register for multiple registration and advised Benue people to be peaceful in their conduct during the forthcoming general election.

Professor Egwu announced that the electoral body would be carrying out demonstration of the functionality of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) with selected wards, districts and local government to be used as demonstration centers to enlighten the electorates.

In his remarks, the Director of Youth Development in the State Ministry of Youth and Sports, Mr. Michael Manga, expressed satisfaction with the contribution of participants and other organizations during the meeting.

He said it was part of Governor Samuel Ortom’s commitment through the ministry to ensure peaceful, free and credible conduct of election in the state.
