October 24, (THEWILL) – Victor Osimhen’s injury-time goal gave Napoli a 1-0 victory against Roma in Serie A on Sunday, extending their unbroken run of victories in all competitions to 11 games.
In a slow-moving and lacklustre first half at the Stadio Olimpico in front of a boisterous crowd, both teams were evenly matched at the onset. In the 38th minute, goalkeeper Rui Patricio appeared to make a last-second challenge on Tanguy Ndombele. Napoli thought they had a penalty, but the call was overturned after a VAR review.
By the hour mark, Napoli had the upper hand and numerous scoring opportunities while Roma struggled to advance the ball beyond their own half. Then, 10 minutes before the end of the game, Osimhen gave Napoli the victory with a one-touch volley from a tight angle.
With 29 points after 11 games, Napoli now leads the Italian top division with AC Milan next by three points for second place. Roma has 22 points and is fifth in the standings.
The I Partenopei will play hosts to Scottish giants Rangers in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday while the following day, HJK will entertain the She-Hulk in the Europa.
