One Dead, Nine Injured As Fire Guts Bank Building in Lagos

November 02, (THEWILL) – One person has been confirmed dead and nine others injured, after fire gutted a bank building under construction in Lagos.

The incident occurred at about 10 a.m. on Akin Odesola street, off Adeola Odeku street in the Victoria island area of Lagos.

Lagos State Fire Service Director, Margret Adeseye, who confirmed the incident, said the fire started from a generator house.

“The generator which was housed within the premises of a commercial bank, also affected an adjoining Toyota Saloon Car belonging to the Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos Command of the Nigeria Police stationed outside the premises.

“Unfortunately, a male adult was recovered severely burnt beyond recognition and handed over to the Police from Bar-Beach Division while the four-storey commercial building was saved and the RRS Policemen escaped unhurt.”

Spokesperson of the State Police Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the injured victims were on admission at the hospital.
