Ohanaeze Mourns Ikonne, Sympathises With Gov Ikpeazu

January 26, (THEWILL) – The apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has expressed grief over the death of the Abia Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Professor Uche Eleazar Ikonne.

Professor Uche Eleazar died at the age of 67 (1956-2023).

A statement by Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, Secretary-General, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, described the legacies of the late medical practitioner as uncommon and immense in the medical profession.

He called on the Government of Abia State to immortalize professor Uche Eleazar by naming the Government house after him.

The statement reads: “Ohanaeze Ndigbo mourned the unfortunate death of the PDP governorship candidate in Abia state, and Ndigbo has extolled the exemplary and outstanding virtues of the deceased while alive.

“The pan-Igbo organization noted the immense contributions, ideas, and also, the uncommon roles of Professor Uche Ikonne, in the Medical profession, academic development, and stability of Abia state, and the entire Southeast.

“He will be greatly missed, his peaceful disposition earned him numerous appointments including Rector, Abia State Polytechnic, Aba; 7th Vice-Chancellor of Abia State University, Ututu; and the PDP ticket for the Abia Guber elections

“Professor Ikonne died at a time his vast and rich wealth of experience, lofty ideas, his wise counselling are also needed towards consolidating numerous monumental giant strides achieved by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu-led administration in the past seven years in Abia state.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo calls on the government of Abia state to immortalize late Professor Ikonne for his patriotism and unquantifiable sacrifices. The new Government house should be named after the deceased.

“We equally want to use this medium to call on the State Government to honour this great gentleman with an organized befitting burial interment for his supportive sacrifices.”

The group consoled the Ikonne family, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Abia State, the government, and the people of Abia state on the ”shocking demise of this worthy Igbo leader,” while praying to God to grant the deceased peaceful rest and offer his family fortitude to bear the huge Loss.
