September 08, (THEWILL) – The eight players who have been shortlisted by the Premier League for the title of Player of the Month for August, have been revealed.
Due to their flawless month, in which they won all five games, Arsenal received two nominations, although only three of the eight players came from one of the “big six” leagues. Martin Odegaard, the new club captain for the Gunners, scored three goals towards the tail end of the month, while summer signing, Gabriel Jesus, is also a contender, thanks to his three goals and two assists.
Erling Haaland gets a spot on the shortlist, thanks to his outstanding start at Manchester City with nine goals, including back-to-back hat-tricks against Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest at home.
Wilfried Zaha of Crystal Palace, who scored four goals in four games in the month, and Aleksandar Mitrovic, who returned to the English Premier League and immediately lit up the league, are also nominated. Pascal Gross recently came close to leaving Brighton, but he is doing well for the team and has been nominated.
The shortlist is completed by Newcastle United goalkeeper, Nick Pope, who had a strong first month on Tyneside and four goals for Leeds United striker, Rodrigo.
