November 12, (THEWILL) – Liverpool defeated Southampton 3-1 at Anfield to enter the World Cup break on a winning note, with Darwin Nunez scoring twice in the victory.

As THEWILL reported, Jurgen Klopp was handed a one-match suspension and was forced to watch the game on Saturday, from the stands as Liverpool earned a victory that moved them up to sixth in the English Premier League.

It was not as simple as the result portrayed because Che Adams’ goal for Southampton under new manager Nathan Jones offset Roberto Firmino’s opening goal to give the Saints a fervent boost at the Anfield stadium.

But Nunez, who will play for Uruguay in Qatar, scored twice in the final 21 seconds of an exciting first half to make it 2-1 and win the victory, as there were no other goals scored for the rest of the game.

Following the World Cup, both teams will compete in the EFL Cup, with Liverpool taking on Manchester City.
