November 06, (THEWILL) – The National Universities Commission (NUC) has finalised work on the code of corporate governance for private universities in Nigeria.
The Executive Secretary of NUC, Professor Abubakar Adamu Rasheed, disclosed this on Saturday in his goodwill message during the second day of the 13th convocation of the Bells University Of Technology, Ota, Ogun State.
Prof. Rasheed, who was represented by Professor Angela Freeman Miri, a Visiting Professor at NUC, ave assurances the code of corporate governance is presently being produced for circulation to stakeholders.
He said: “The commission is presently on the verge of concluding the review and development of curricula in the Nigerian University System (NUS).
“This would be widely circulated to universities as soon as the exercise is completed and the document approved by the Honourable Minister of Education.”
He further disclosed that the review of the instruments of accreditation has since been completed, adding that the instruments would be deployed during the November/December 2021 accreditation exercise schedule to commence in the next two (2) weeks.
The NUC Executive Secretary, who lauded the development strides of the founder of the university, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, and the commitment of the vice chancellor, Prof Jeremiah Ojediran, urged the graduates to apply the knowledge acquired to bring about the needed change the country requires.
“I commend the vice chancellor, management and Staff of Bells University of Technology for the enormous contributions made so far towards the growth and development of the University, especially in the area of science and technology.”
“The provision of quality education to our teeming youths in this country is a service which requires innovations, as well as long term investments in infrastructure and other facilities, to enable a conducive learning environment in the 21Century.”
“Universities must, therefore, be creative in offering sustainable and cost effective solutions to the myriad of challenges confronting University Education in Nigeria, including most especially the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic that is ravaging the world,” he said.
He said the NUC will continue to provide the required support, while monitoring the activities of universities to ensure that students and their sponsors get good value for their investments.
