Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets’ 5-1 Thrashing Of Bayern Munich Provokes Germans

BEVERLY HILLS, February 27, (THEWILL) – World club champions Bayern Munich’s young team losing 5-1 to Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets in a friendly match has been provoking furious responses from the Germans’ officials.

The rationale for the fury stems from how such an embarrassing defeat can harm the solid football reputation the senior side has built for the Bavarian giants and which has earned it respect and honour across the football world over the course of so many years.

In a match that was goalless at the interval, these officials believe that there was no basis for conceding five goals at the end of the tie. The Eaglets’ striker Ahmed Abdullahi netted a brace for the Golden Eaglets to complete the five-goal haul for the Nigerian team preparing for next month’s Under-17 AFCON in Morocco.

The five-time world champions, who fought bravely through the qualifying series and against the U-17s from Burkina Faso (who are defending champions of the WAFU-B series), earned a hard-fought 1-0 victory in the final qualifiers to reach the AFCON, where they are drawn against Tanzania, Algeria and Congo.

The Nigerian team played a better second half against Bayern to take the win and that final scoreline, while flattering the Eaglets, was unpalatable for the German club, whose officials made it abundantly clear to the handlers of the youth wing of the club, how mortifying it was that a Bayern side will be so thoroughly thrashed.

In attendance at the friendly in Abuja was the Super Eagles technical adviser, Gernot Rohr, who is a former Bayern Munich defender himself.
