November 03, (THEWILL) -A combined bid by Nigeria, Ghana, and the Benin Republic to host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), is under consideration ahead of the continent’s next football showpiece.

Previously, Algeria and Morocco were anticipated to compete with Nigeria and the neighbouring Benin Republic for the chance to host, but Nigeria’s West African counterparts and rivals, Ghana, are now prepared to work with them to organise the continental showpiece.

Revealing this information was Mustapha Ussif, Ghana’s Sports Minister, who said: “There’s a discussion that Ghana should bid with the likes of Nigeria and Benin. We are still considering it. We have not taken a decision yet but there is that discussion that we should get sister countries so that we can put in that bid.”

Due to a lack of funding to build the necessary infrastructure, the Confederation of African Football (CAF), revoked Guinea’s earlier selection to serve as the competition’s host nation.

A combined bid between Nigeria, Benin and Ghana will be reminiscent of the 2008 AFCON, which Nigeria successfully co-hosted with Ghana. CAF anticipates receiving finalised AFCON 2025 hosting proposals by December 16 in Cairo, together with supporting documentation, potential host cities, and government guarantees.
