January 24, (THEWILL) – The President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, has announced the extension of the tenure of the Interim Management Committee (IMC) of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) until the end of the 2022/2023 league season.
In a statement containing the announcement, Gusau said the decision was made to allow the IMC to focus on the organisation and management of the ongoing NPFL season, which is only heading into its Matchday 3 this weekend.
THEWILL recalls that the IMC, headed by Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye, was inaugurated by Gusau on October 21st, 2022, with an initial mandate of three months and a set of terms of reference aimed at revitalising Nigeria’s elite division.
At the draw ceremony for the new season held on December 28th, 2022, Gusau praised the IMC for the work they have done since their appointment and assured them of the NFF’s support in turning around Nigeria’s domestic league.
Due to time constraints, the IMC opted for an abridged format for the 2022/2023 NPFL season, with 10 clubs in Group A and 10 clubs in Group B in a tournament-styled competition. The current season is scheduled to end in May.
