BEVERLY HILLS, May 26, (THEWILL) – It was expected for a while but it has now been confirmed that French Football manager Zinedine Zidane is vacating his managerial position with the former La Liga champions for the second time.

The very demanding Spanish club ended the 2020/2021 without silverware, narrowly missing the domestic title that Atletico Madrid won by two more points than Real. Los Blancos also reached the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League, where they lost to Chelsea, who will meet fellow English Premier League side Manchester City in the final.

It was speculated that Zidane was going to leave at the end of the season and that he had shared that with his squad in the dressing room but he vehemently disputed that anything of such ever happened.

However, the former Real midfielder has now reportedly left his role as Real head coach with immediate effect, after he returned in 2019 to the club where he won three consecutive Champions League titles in his first spell in charge between 2016 and 2018.

His exit coincides with that of Antonio Conte from Inter Milan. In his remarks after missing out on the league title to rivals Atletico on the final day of the season, Zidane said: “The most important thing is not me here. I just have to think about what we have done and then with time, and calmly, I will talk to the club, but not now. In the next few days we will meet with the management and then we will see what happens.”

Leaving the club where he shone as a player and manager is believed to be the result of that management meeting. It is uncertain at the moment where Zidane will go next, just as it is not clear for Conte too.
