SAN FRANCISCO, September 18, (THEWILL) – Yobe State Government said it will splash a whopping N1.263 billion on 1,864 retirees in the services of the state and Local Governments in the state for the year 2013.
A statement issued on Wednesday by the Special Adviser on Press Affairs and Information to Governor Ibrahim Gaidam, Alhaji Abdullahi Bego, said the governor has approved the payment as a way of rewarding hard work .
“Out of this amount, N590 million will be paid to 1, 296 people who have retired from the services of the state government while N673 million will be paid to 568 Local Government retirees.
“His Excellency the governor has also set up a committee under the chairmanship of Alhaji Bukar Chidami, former executive chairman of the State Revenue Board to oversee payment for state government retirees while the Local Government pension board will undertake payment for workers who retired from Local Government service.
“Prompt payment of benefits for government workers and retirees is part of His Excellency Governor Gaidam administration’s continued effort to encourage and reward hard work and service delivery to the people of the state. His Excellency Governor Gaidam is determined to continue with this and other measures to ensure that workers who have served the state and retired are assisted to a dignified and comfortable life in retirement.
“The governor calls on workers in the employ of both the state and local governments to continue to dedicate themselves and do their utmost to serve the people,” Bego said in the statement.
