September 20, (THEWILL) – The new women’s 100m hurdles world record, set by Tobi Amusan, has been ratified by the World Athletics on Tuesday.
THEWILL recalls that Amusan broke the record at the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Oregon, America, in July. In the semifinals, the Nigerian broke the previous record of 12.20 set by American, Kendra Harrison, in London, in 2016, by setting a new record of 12.12.
After such outstanding effort, the gifted athlete won the competition with a wind-aided 12.06 (2.5 m/s). In the 100m hurdles heat, Amusan also beat the 12.40-second African record.
With the ratification, the fact of the 25-year-old being the first Nigerian to hold a World Record is confirmed for the records.
