Why FG Failed To Displace Me As Senate President – Bukola Saraki

GTBCO FOOD DRINL

April 27, (THEWILL) – Former senate president and a People’s Democratic Party presidential hopeful, Dr Bukola Saraki, has explained why the federal government failed to sack him as Nigeria’s senate president.

Saraki said his ability to hold people and unite people across the country made it impossible to displace him.

He said Nigeria needs a team player and president who can work with Nigerians from all divides and he fits that bill.

The former senate president disclosed this in Calabar during a consultative visit to delegates of the PDP ahead of the party’s presidential convention in May.

Addressing the delegates, Dr Saraki said, “You cannot move the country forward of you cannot unite it.

“I have been able and continue to unite people whether as chairman of the governor’s forum, or recently as senate president with 109 senators across the country.

“There was twice an attempt to invade the national assembly by the SSS and the Police, but we stood firm because both houses of the national assembly believed in their leader.

“Where you have a government who spent every minute to see how they can remove me, but because I was holding people together, we were there representing Nigeria and that was why we were united and stood firm, that is the kind of president we need”, he said.

He said as senate president, they questioned the rationale behind excessive loans and it landed them in trouble.

Today, we spend 80% of our finances paying loans and cannot develop with that.

He said Nigeria needs a president who is a team player and can take up challenges.

He also told the delegates that, “if you give me the office, I will leave it better than I met it.”

He added that we do not have the luxury of using emotions to decide who will become president in 2023 because the country needs to be rescued.

Nigeria’s next president, he stressed, must be someone who can create wealth and we should go for the best.

He urged the delegates to give him their votes and promised not to disappoint them and make the country better off.

Leader of the PDP in the state, Liyel Imoke, commended Bukola Saraki for his dedication and commitment to the party.

He said delegates from the state are not tribalistic, but enlightened and always go for the best.
