October 13, (THEWILL) – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has denied reports that the party has temporarily suspended its campaign, to enable it to resolve the rift between the presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar and Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike.
Media reports (not THEWILL) had alleged that the party put off its planned rallies at the request of the presidential standard-bearer, who has nominated new mediators to reach out to the Rivers State governor.
Atiku was said to have appointed former Senate President, David Mark; former Rivers Governor, Peter Odili and former Delta State Governor, James Ibori, in a new move to placate the Wike group and bring them on board in the campaign.
So far, the group has shunned all requests to back down in their demand for the resignation of the national chairman, Dr Iyorchia Ayu. It has indeed carried out its threat and did not participate in the flag-off of the PDP campaign in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
The suspension of the campaign, according to reports, was meant to give mediators the opportunity to carry out the assignment.
But the Director of Strategic Communications of the Party’s Presidential Campaign Council, Chief Dele Momodu, described the reports as falsehood.
Reacting via his verified Instagram handle, Momodu said the party is on course with its rallies and is due to hit Kaduna next.
“Absolute falsehood…unlike the APC which is yet to put its act together, our Atiku/Okowa Presidential Campaign Council has taken off at supersonic speed…see you soon in Kaduna by God’s grace”, Momodu said.
