December 04, (THEWILL) – An incredible West Ham display saw David Moyes’ charges come from behind to beat the English Premier League leaders Chelsea 3-2 in a thrilling London derby.

With what appeared to be an unintended fluke Arthur Masuaku scored a late winner after the scores were tied at two goals apiece to give all three points to the hosts.

Thiago Silva’s header put the European champions ahead, but Manuel Lanzini slammed a penalty home in the 40th minute to equalise after errors from Jorginho and Edouard Mendy opened the Hammers to a chance they gladly embraced.

Chelsea took the lead again after Mason Mount’s brilliant volley at the conclusion of the first half to allow the visitors go into the interval on a narrow lead.

West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen erased that advantage when he curled in a superb low strike to draw the Hammers level once again and demonstrate the determination that has characterised the football that Moyes has orchestrated in his side so far.

The Blues pressed for a winner, aided by Romelu Lukaku’s introduction from the bench at half-time, but fell to their second top-flight defeat of the season when Masuaku’s cross caught Mendy out at his near post with three minutes remaining in normal time.

The result means that though Chelsea remain top of the standings for the time being, they will rue a squandered opportunity to extend their lead. They also risk ending the match week in third place. Manchester City will welcome the opportunity to climb to the top later against Watford.

West Ham have ended their recent run of bad luck and have consolidated their position in the Champions League positions, indicating a strong start to the 2021/20w2 campaign. Leading sides Chelsea and Liverpool have both visited the London Stadium and left empty-handed to the credit of Moyes’ charges.
