SAN FRANCISCO, November 07, (THEWILL) – The Kano State House of Assembly’s ad hoc committee investigating the bribery allegation against Governor Abdullahi Ganduje has resolved to continue with its probe despite a ruling by the court asking all parties in the matter to maintain status quo.

Chairman of the committee, Baffa Babba, said this at a news conference after the State High Court sitting in Kano ordered the parties involved in the matter to ‘maintain status quo ante’ pending the hearing of a motion on notice seeking to stop the probe.

Babba insisted that the court did not specifically mention that the committee should stop the investigation into the video published by the online news site, Daily Nigeria, allegedly showing the governor receiving a bribe.

Despite deciding to continue with the investigation, Mr Babba said his committee was ready to respect the court injunction, but it would not allow the court to interfere with their Constitutional obligations.

“We will respect the court but the order in question obtained by the Lawyers For Sustainable Democracy In Nigeria only states that we should maintain status quo, and we intends to maintain that status quo and we will proceed with our investigations,” he said.

The court injunction of Monday came less than 72 hours after Governor Ganduje wrote a letter to the committee denying the bribery allegations.

Governor Ganduje had sent the letter through the State Commissioner for Information, Muhammad Garba, who along with the Commissioner of Justice, Ibrahim Mukhtar, appeared before the committee on Friday.
