October 03, (THEWILL) – Vice-president Yemi Osinbajo on Saturday left Nigeria to São Tomé and Príncipe, for the inauguration of Carlos Nova.
His media spokesman, Laolu Akande, in a statement on Saturday, said the vice-president would be joining other Heads of State and Governments, especially from Africa for the inauguration ceremony of Carlos Manuel Vila Nova, the newly elected President of Sao Tome And Principe.
Nova was declared the winner of the run-off election conducted on September 3, 2021.
The new leader takes over from the incumbent President, Evaristo Carvalho.
Osinbajo was accompanied by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Amb. Zubairu Dada.
He is expected back in Abuja on Saturday night.
São Tomé and Príncipe, an African island nation close to the Gulf of Guinea, has a population of 220,000.
Nigeria and Sao Tome and Principe have strategic economic and diplomatic relations.
The Nigeria–Sao Tome and Principe Joint Development Authority was established in 2002 to manage activities in the Nigeria-Sao Tome and Principe Joint Development Zone.
