BEVERLY HILLS, October 20, (THEWILL) – Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford was his side’s hero away at the Parc des Princes for another UEFA Matchday. The Englishman’s late strike secured a 2-1 victory for the Red Devils over Paris Saint-Germain in a Champions League Group H tie on Tuesday.

In the early exchanges, Spanish keeper for Man U David de Gea sprung to his right to keep PSG Argentine midfielder Angel Di Maria at bay in the 12th minute, knocking the ball out of play. From the resulting corner, only an instinctive block from the sharp reflexes of the United goalkeeper stopped a stretching French left back Layvin Kurzawa volleying home Kylian Mbappe’s whipped cross.

The game soon settled into free flowing football until PSG defender Abdou Diallo’s needless lunge on Anthony Martial in the 20th minute gave Bruno Fernandes the chance to equalise from the spot, which he did at the second attempt.

PSG coach Thomas Tuchel required reinforcements and sent Moise Kean on. But, after De Gea did a brilliant job of denying Mbappe his goal and Frenchman Layvin Kurzawa hit the bar with a cross, it was an own goal from another Frenchman Anthony Martial, Man U striker, that levelled matters.

Costa Rican Keylor Navas then tipped a low drive from Rashford wide in the 69th minute as he continued with his mission to keep out the United attacker again with 10 minutes remaining.

However, Rashford would claim the final victory as he succeeded at the third attempt. The young forward fired a fine finish into the bottom-left corner from the edge of the box with three minutes remaining.

THEWILL concludes that Solskjaer showed tactical dexterity and technical decision-making.

The Red Devils started with a three-man defense and despite some early pressure they defended resolutely, limiting PSG to five shots on target – every one of which was saved by De Gea. But after Martial’s own goal gifted the French side an equaliser, Solskjaer switched tact and sent in French midfielder Paul Pogba as a substitute for debutant Alex Telles. This made his team start to threaten regularly on the break.

With Rashford’s winner, they became the first team to beat PSG at home more than once in the Champions League and handed last season’s runners-up their first defeat in 25 group games in the competition at the Parc des Princes.

Tuchel, on the other hand, decided not to play Neymar in the Ligue 1 meeting with Nimes last Friday to give the forward a rest after the international break so that he’d be raring to go in this fixture. Yet, the Brazilian failed to have a meaningful impact against United. His only two touches in the opposition box did not bother De Gea until the 83rd minute, while he only created one chance for a team-mate.

For their next matches, United have an English Premier League meeting with Chelsea at Old Trafford on Saturday, when PSG entertain Dijon in Ligue 1.
