September 03, (THEWILL) – Aston Villa earned a 1-1 draw against Manchester City as Leon Bailey overturned Erling Haaland’s opening goal to give Aston Villa a point and a second draw for City this Premier League season.

The first half saw no shots on goal for Pep Guardiola’s team, but five minutes after the break, Haaland’s close-range strike—his 10th in six games—gave them the lead.

After that, City were forced to pay for a number of squandered opportunities when Bailey rifled in with 16 minutes left to electrify Villa Park and relieve the strain on the home team’s manager Steven Gerrard.

While Villa climbed to 17th place, the second-placed defending champions moved to a point behind the league-leading Arsenal, who will be tested against an improved Manchester United on Sunday.

Next week, Villa would play an important away game against Leicester City with early pressure on both managers while on Tuesday, City go to Sevilla for their UEFA Champions League opener.
