September 18, (THEWILL) – With a composed 3-0 victory at Brentford on Sunday, where Fabio Vieira scored in his first league start, Arsenal reclaimed first place in the English Premier League log.
In their previous league game, the winning streak of Mikel Arteta’s side was broken by a loss at Manchester United, but they rebounded forcefully to go a point ahead of Manchester City and Tottenham in the table ahead of the international break.
Having been at the opposite end of the table at the corresponding time last season, William Saliba and Gabriel Jesus scored in the first half to give Arsenal the lead, then Vieira, who replaced the injured Martin Odegaard in the starting XI, added a stunning third goal after the break to take the Gunners to the top.
As the game came to a close and the points were secured, Ethan Nwaneri, who is only 15 years and 181 days old, made history by becoming the youngest ever player to feature in EPL, making his debut as the clock wound down to the final whistle.
The Gunners will host Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur after the international break, with a UEFA Europa League match in between. Those contests will serve as genuine trials of their season-long title challenge capacity. Meanwhile, Brentford are next up against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.
