October 07, (THEWILL) – Ahead of Nigeria’s Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against the Central African Republic (CAR), Victor Osimhen, choice striker for the Super Eagles, has won his first major accolade in the Italian Serie A after being voted player of the month for September.
Osimhen had a terrible start to the season in August, as he was sent off in the first game against Venezia and then missed the game against Genoa. However, with a string of excellent performances for Napoli in September, he has put that initial setback behind him.
The 22-year-old has seven goals in eight appearances for Luciano Spalletti’s side, all of which came in the last month. Four of the goals came in the Italian top division, with his first coming against Udinese, followed by a brace against Sampdoria and a third against Cagliari.
During this time, Osimhen also helped Napoli keep their perfect start in the league by winning two penalties. His efforts have been recognised, as he has now been named September’s Player of the Month in the Serie A that boasts some top strikers like Lazio’s Ciro Immobile, Inter Milan’s duo of Edwin Dzeko and Lautaro Martinez and Jordan Veretout of Roma.
Osimhen scored three goals in the Europa League, including a brace against Leicester City, in addition to his four September goals in the Italian League.
