August 21, (THEWILL) – In their heavyweight rematch, Oleksandr Usyk defeated Anthony Joshua in a 12-round split decision to retain the WBA, WBO, and IBF heavyweight crowns.
Usyk had a score of 116–112 from ringside judges Victor Fesechko and Steve Gray, while Joshua received a score of 115–113 from Glenn Feldman.
Following their initial bout in London last year, where Usyk defeated the British boxer to win the WBA, IBF, WBO, and IBO heavyweight belts, the long-awaited fight, which was initially shifted because of the Russian invasion of Usyk’s Ukraine, took place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Usyk was engaged in combat on the front lines in Kyiv up until about March, but he left the war-torn nation to concentrate on his rematch with Joshua and fought creditably, with skill and tact, to retain his titles.
